How to Use Preschool Letter Sounds Worksheets

Introduce one or two letters each week. Begin with recognition, say the most common sound, trace the letter and then name a picture that begins with that sound. Keep each session to 10-15 minutes and review difficult letters before adding new ones.

When to Move Beyond Letter Sounds

Continue with the A-Z worksheets until the child can recognize most letters and recall their common sounds without relying on pictures. Then use the Kindergarten CVC worksheets to begin short-vowel blending; do not introduce several new spelling patterns in the same session.
